At Château de Sacy, the closest volunteer gardening host to Paris, we request 4-5 hours help a day, 6 days a week, and put you up in the château itself. Every day is different, whether it is outdoors: restoring and maintaining 1ha of formal / kitchen garden, orchard and small wood, cycling to the farm for fresh milk and eggs; or indoors: jam-making, learning French cookery, improving your French or English, helping prepare meals on our summer retreats and getting used to green living. (Depending on your experience, we may ask for a 20E p/n contribution to cover costs.) There are also opportunities for carpenters, painters and builders to get involved in the refurbishment of interior rooms and outbuildings.
In your free time you can use our bikes or catch a train to go swimming in a nearby lake, explore the many nearby tourist attractions (including the Châteaux at Chantilly, Pierrefonds and Compiègne, World War I and ancient Roman landmarks). Or stay at home to play French billiards or assist our artists in-residence over the summer.
Our village is 65km north of Paris and 7km from Pont Sainte-Maxence train station (35 minutes from Paris Gare du Nord, the Eurostar station). Charles de Gaulle airport (Roissy) is 49km away.
